Since his film debut in 1998, he has been featured in over 60 films.

Wu was born in Berkeley, California, and raised in Orinda, California. Wu began studying wushu at 11 years old after watching Jet Li in The Shaolin Temple and Donnie Yen in Iron Monkey. At the suggestion of his sister, Wu began modeling there and was scouted to star in an upcoming movie, Yon Fan’s Bishonen (together with Stephen Fong) in 1998 (despite his inability to speak or read Chinese).
