Hana Yori Dango (花より男子, lit. Dango [Preferred] over Flowers aka Boys Over Flowers) is a Japanese shōjo manga series written and illustrated by Yoko Kamio. The manga was serialized in Shueisha’s bi-weekly Margaret magazine from October 1992 to September 2003. It was later adapted into a 51-episode anime series (which closely follows the manga) and an anime film. It was also adapted into live-action television drama series in both Japan and Korea, and in Taiwan it was also adapted into two live-action films. Each of these drama series became the spring board for most of its stars’ careers.

Hana Yori Dango not only won the 41st Shogakukan Manga Award for Shōjo, but it is also the best-selling shōjo manga in Japan of all time, having sold 54 million copies as of 2005. A sequel, “Boys Over Flower Season 2” was published in Weekly Shonen Jump starting February 15, 2015. – wikipedia

The story is set in Eitoku Academy, an elite school for children from rich families. It follows lead protagonist Tsukushi Makino, a student from a working-class family, and the members of Eitoku Academy’s elite Flower Four, commonly known as the “F4”.

The Japanese television drama series of Hana Yori Dango (花より男子), which was broadcast on TBS in 2005, starred Mao Inoue, Jun Matsumoto of Arashi, Shun Oguri, Shota Matsuda, and Tsuyoshi Abe. The sequel entitled Hana Yori Dango Returns aired in 2007 and a movie adaptation Hana Yori Dango Final was released in 2008.

The Taiwanese drama series, Meteor Garden (流星花園) aired in 2001 Taiwanese, starred Barbie Hsu, Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, Vanness Wu and Ken Chu (the members of the group F4). A supplementary mini-series, Meteor Rain was produced in April 2001 and the sequel Meteor Garden II was broadcast from 11 November 2002 to 25 December 2002.
