Seraphine is a bullish blue Fire Dragon. Blue fires are the hottest fire (about 3000º C), making this a very fierce and fiery dragon. Seraphine, in Hebrew סרפין (Serafin), means burning fire. It is fueled by a burning passion to strive for the best in itself. It represents loyalty, wisdom, confidence and stability.

Seraphine is modeled after an earlier piece, “Descendants of Dragon 龍的傳人” a water dragon. The figure has on a dragon suit, where only the child’s cherubic face is visible. The arms of the figurine has wing-like fiery appendages, allowing it to take flight and soar to greater heights in everything he undertakes.

Sketch
A quick pencil sketch on the figurine (for placement – the paint covers it all up later)

Mold
Using Sculpey modeling clay, the horns, beard, wings and tail are created. It is then baked at 275ºF (130ºC) for 15 minutes per inch of thickness. Take care not to over-bake, as this can melt the dunny. (Mine just started to melt a little. Putting it back together required a little bit of force — the head, arms and tail)

The other option to baking, is boiling it. (That doesn’t take it to 130ºc, but it will harden the sculpey) The final way of curing the sculpey, is using a hairdryer. This is meant for little touch-ups. Nothing big. I’ve tried all three ways of curing, and all three works. Remember to wash everything before using it for food.

Paint
After that, paint away. Remember, acrylics don’t need water – even for mixing. In fact, I use water as an eraser. Also, dark colors first, then light to blend. Painting requires patience, a pair of non-color-blind-eyes, good light, and one ultra steady hand. Paint in layers. Let dry. And paint again until satisfied — time permitting.

Finally when everything is done, I spray on a coat of Krylon clear acrylic coat, just to set the colors.

Berklee College of Music in Boston presented Lee Hom 力宏 with an Honorary Doctor of Music Degree on November 13, 2016. He simultaneously also held a mini concert at the Symphony Hall.

After the concert. Heading to the after party.

I was blessed with the rare opportunity to meet him in person. I love his music, tireless work ethic and truly admire him as a humanitarian who actively gives back to his community and the world. The proceeds from the concert held at the BSO was used to establish a scholarship under his name at the College for students from China. Furthermore, by having the concert at BSO, he gave the students of Berklee a chance of a lifetime to perform for a different audience, to be in the limelight. It was inspiring and stirring to see young professionals making up the symphony/band: taking turns conducting, taking lead singing and playing the piano.

He realizes it may be fragile. So he gets me to take it out for show and tell (while helping with the box).
He thinks it’s Pokémon, but also says he doesn’t even know what that looks like.
