Pantone’s newest color reveal is the PANTONE Minion Yellow (after years of research); based on the Minions from Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me franchise, including the upcoming prequel Minions (scheduled for release July 10, 2015). Stuart’s “matoka” – banana (banana, banannaaaaa) color aka Minion Yellow is an extroverted ray of sunshine and optimism that energizes, illuminates and clarifies. This idea is the apparent collaboration with Pharrell Williams.
Fall 2015 Landscape of Evolving Colors
This autumn, earthy neutrals will blend with bold colors and patterns; the rich, multifaceted colors evoking love for nature, warmth and security. More importantly, the androgynous colors allow the designers to pay homage to provoking eras throughout the American history – from the seductive ‘20s to the bohemian hippie and modernists of the ‘60s and ‘70s – without being reliant on typical gender assigned colors.
Eight new design trends for the new year was recently announced by iStock, with an obvious visual bias. Gone are the generic smiling faces. Here to stay are oddballs, image being king and toned-down colors.
The new 2015 Pantone Color of the Year: Marsala 18-1438 is “universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors” – Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone Color Institute.
This rich, reddish-brown hue that emanates a sophisticated, natural earthiness served as a foundation color to the Spring/Summer 2015 palette. The full-bodied qualities of Marsala make for an elegant, grounded statement color when used on its own or as a vibrant accent to many other colors.
