San serif fonts are one of my favorite go-to fonts when designing because of its clean lines and simplicity. This in turn allows the design it accompanies to shine through instead of overpowering it. Klima was drawn from scratch, but the design was influenced by DIN 1451, a German typeface from 1931. DIN is now an open standard that’s the basis for a number of typefaces (FF DIN, DIN Next, DIN Round, Parachute’s DIN Text, and more). Klima’s proportions are wider and the curves are more relaxed than DIN, secondary characters like punctuation marks were drawn with a more humanistic style (the ampersand (&) and ‘at’ sign (@), for example), and quirks like the the tail on the lowercase ‘l’ have been removed for a more plainspoken feel. Mohave is all caps display typefaces, built with smooth height and dynamic glyph. This typefaces is designed for large points setting, contains three weights, it’s regular, semi bold, and bold plus italics. This new version has improved glyph shapes, some difference alternates in the uppercase and lowercase, adding more latin diacritcs and punctuation. A display sans for one paragraph (or shorter) length text: quotes, openings, titles, etc. Sure, you could use it for body copy and get away with it, but that’s not where the typeface shines.
The font has many, many languages and features. Stuff like small caps punctuation or Bulgarian/Serbian alternates. There is an instructional PDF included. Neris is the name of my city’s river. While it doesn’t really translate into anything meaningful, it looks good in both Lithuanian and English while showcasing most of the distinct features: slanted /e, semi-serif /i, stylized ink traps, curved sharp joints.
